The NEXT BIG THING to hit Reading!

Here at Coconut Bar and Kitchen we like to make a difference. Our customers are always our main focus and we strive to offer them everything they want and more and, in most cases, what the rest of Reading doesn’t offer. Our cocktail bar and restaurant has always been a favourite in town for eating. Our pan - Asian menu never fails to impress and delight and we welcome guests back again and again. In addition, our late night bar steals the show in Reading, offering a live DJ on Friday and Saturday nights. Great music and a great party atmosphere.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better here at Coconut we are now offering LATE NIGHT BAR FOOD. These are quick, light snacks with the quality ingredients, exquisite tastes and excellent cuisine that everyone expects from us. Served from 10pm to Midnight our Late Night Coconut Chow-Down provides a little something delicious to keep you going into the small hours.

Take a look at the link below to see what we have to tempt you. You’ll notice we have special offers too. http://www.coconutbarkitchen.co.uk/#late-night-menu

And just so you know we’re not making it up, here’s what one of our lovely customers said about us last week. There’s really not much more we could add. Thank you Cherry!

Amazing

I’ve visited here over 10 times for different occasions. The food and drink is always perfect as is the service.
The bar: They put a lot of attention and care into their drink menu and it shows. Every drink I have had has the wow factor. Hands down the best porn star Martini in Reading and another drink I strongly suggest is the kiwi gardens.
Food: Great selection of food and a lot of variety. I enjoy every meal I have ordered. My fave starter is the sticky Thai wings and my fave main is the Thai green curry. They also do a tasty Singapore Noodle.
Service: Every server I have had is always lovely but a massive thank you to Youraj who made our last stay very comfortable and memorable. All the servers go out of their way to provide you the best service. The doorman are very nice and mild mannered. They kindly enforce the rules and open the doors for the ladies.
Night Vibe: I had one of the best nights in Coconut past food service. They project music videos on to the projector and play great hits that everyone knows so everyone could have a sing along, dance and enjoy themselves.
I LOVE COCONUT
First place I recommend when someone wants to go out”

“When life hands you lemons, bust out the tequila and salt!”

It’s a funny thing, adding salt when drinking tequila, but, as with food, it actually enhances the flavour and helps to tamper the bitterness. Of course, the most famous drink associated with tequila is the Margarita. There are many interesting anecdotes about it origins but according to cocktail historian (now that sounds like a great job!) David Wondrich, it is a version of a popular Mexican and American brandy based drink called Daisy. During prohibition, people would hop over the border for alcohol, the native tipple being tequila which is made from the locally grown blue agave. So, with their newly discovered tequila and lack of brandy, the cocktail was soon modified to suit the situation and it was fittingly christened Margarita, Spanish for Daisy. There is an account from 1936 of newspaper editor James Graham finding this cocktail in the Mexican city, Tijuana, years before any other claims of this fine cocktail even existing.

Today is National Margarita Day and here at our cocktail bar and restaurant we serve a fabulous Margarita. During our Happy Hour, 4.30pm – 7pm on a Friday, you can enjoy that, and many other cocktails, for the amazing price of just £5.50. You may also be interested to know that every Wednesday is Perfect Wednesday at Coconut Bar and Kitchen, when you can get a Margarita made with the exquisite Patron Tequila for just £5.50!

It’s not just us who thinks we serve great cocktails. This is what one of our lovely guests, Cat, said.

Brilliant bar staff and their cocktails  ...I had such a good time, the atmosphere was amazing and the cocktails were outstanding. I was served by these two beautiful people at the bar... it certainly feels like home here at coconut! Thank you for the great service. XOXO”

Thank you Cat, we really appreciate your feedback. See you again soon.

Our Signature Korean Bibimbap Dish

Our Signature Korean Bibimbap Dish

Coconut Bar and Kitchen is a restaurant with a difference. Our style is pan-Asian, unique to Reading, and offers a variety of dishes from South East Asia, some of which you may not have seen before.

Take the stress out of worrying if you’ve had your 5 a day, a healthy portion of protein and a daily dose of carbs by tucking in to one of our signature Bibimbap dishes.  It really does have it all and comes with a tasty sauce. It’s delicious, healthy and filling. No wonder everyone is talking about it.

Coolest place in Reading.  Came in with friends had some lovely cocktails followed by some beautiful food. Bibimbap was sooo good . Paul came to talk us through the menu and delivered on the quality . Thank you coconut for making our night . Will return soon .x ‘

Thank you shifu123, so glad you had such a great time with us.

Bibimbap is a traditional Korean dish. It’s not really known where it originates from, some believe people may have started mixing foods together to eat with the gods. These were outside rituals so lots of separate plates were not practical. Traditionally it was eaten on the eve of the lunar new year when, back then, people felt they should use up all their leftover side dishes. It was a perfect solution to put them all in one bowl and mix it up with some rice.

Take a look at our main menu http://www.coconutbarkitchen.co.uk/#main-menu

There really is something for everyone. Whether you prefer spicy or mild, rice or noodles, beef or chicken, veggie or vegan, we have it all. If you’re feeling very brave you can even spice it up by adding Shanghai Hot chilli to your order. Include something from our cocktail bar in your visit and you’ll see why people love to visit our cocktail bar and restaurant, and why they return.

Many thanks for reading we look forward to seeing you soon.

Whoop! Whoop! it’s Drink Wine Day…

If you need an excuse to start the week off with a glass or two then this is it! It would be a shame not to celebrate it when someone has gone to the trouble of declaring it, wouldn’t it.

Although a celebrated cocktail bar, our bar and restaurant also serves a fantastic selection of carefully chosen wines. What’s more, we can even recommend which wine suits the various dishes on our menu. If you’d prefer to wait until later in the week before celebrating Drink Wine Day, you may like to consider our Thursday deal, offering house wine for just £12.50.

http://www.coconutbarkitchen.co.uk/#wine-list

Did you know, in ancient Greece, a dinner host would take the first sip of wine to assure guests the wine was not poisoned, hence the phrase “drinking to one’s health.”

Thanks for reading, we hope to see you soon at Coconut Bar and KItchen.

And the award goes to….

coconutaward

…. KLEDIS!

It’s award season after all and a very fitting time to recognise the hard work, consistency and conscientiousness that our fabulous barman Kledis brings to Coconut Bar and Kitchen.

Our cocktail bar would not be the same without him, as many of our customers, particularly the ladies, would agree.  He is a great team member and friend to the rest of the staff here and thoroughly deserves this accolade.

Come along to our bar and restaurant and maybe get Kledis to show his mixology skills by making you a cocktail. For this week only, to celebrate Chinese New Year, our special lunchtime Fortune Teller cocktail is also available in the evenings. This is what our lovely guest anitapreuch said about us. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write the review.

Very good place for dinner or cocktails!   Coconut is my favourite bar/restaurant in Reading.
It has the best cocktails and we had the opportunity to taste its food (I highly recommend the "Beef Gyudon", one of the best things I've ever tried!!) and it was amazing! We've been served for Anna and Youraj and they always looked after us in our requirements: thank you, guys!
It's always a comfortable place to have fun and enjoy the night with friends or your date.
We will come back for sure to continue discovering more about the Coconut experience ;)”

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Here! At Coconut Bar and Kitchen! We also have Juliet if you are looking for her too. They are the names of the 2 special cocktails created for Valentine’s Day. One is vodka and Modori based, the other is made with pink gin and prosecco, both delicious and both only available on February 14th.

Apparently being in love does not only have an emotional effect on people. Research has found that couples who are in love synchronize their heart rates after gazing into each other’s eyes for three minutes. Also, couples at the very beginning of a romantic relationship will be very different a year later. Romantic love, which is linked with euphoria, dependence, sweaty palms, butterflies etc, only lasts about a year. After that first year begins the so-called “committed love” stage. The transition is linked with elevated neurotrophin protein levels in newly formed couples. And, next time you’re feeling stressed or in pain, it has been proven that long-term couples with deep, strong connections can successfully soothe each other simply by holding hands. It’s certainly worth a try.

Show how much you care this Valentine’s Day by booking a table in our bar and restaurant http://www.coconutbarkitchen.co.uk/#reservations

Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon..

Coconut Sunday Brunch

“A Sunday well-spent brings a week of content”. Proverb

So true! What better way to recover from the stresses of the previous week and prepare for the next one than spending Sunday relaxing with friends and enjoying good food and drink, even better if someone else is doing the cooking and preparing the drinks, and absolutely perfect if the food and drink is fantastic value.

Coconut Bar and Kitchen is one of Reading’s favourite places for eating and drinking. Our bar and restaurant, just a stone’s throw from the Oracle, provides one of the most popular venues in town. On a Sunday you can enjoy all day happy hour, maybe we should rename it happy day?, as well as a fabulous Sunday Brunch menu that comes with 2 hours of unlimited Prosecco or selected cocktails. A great way to chill out with family and friends, to celebrate a birthday or to end a shopping spree. Surely even the most retail loathing people could see the benefits of that outing?

Chinese New Year, Year of PIG

We’re now planning our next celebration; Chinese New Year. Year of the Pig. This is celebrated not only in China and by Chinese communities throughout the world but also in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. As our pan-Asian restaurant serves at least one dish from each of those countries, we feel well qualified to celebrate too. The pig is the last of the zodiac animals and according to custom, overslept and arrived late to the great meeting that all the creatures were summoned to by the Jade Emperor. Traditionally it is associated with wealth, emotion and intuition. In true Coconut style, we’ll certainly mark the occasion with the celebration it deserves.

Staff Xmas Party

Following that fabulous night, a week later it was our turn to party. As we were a bit too busy over the Christmas period to celebrate together, our Christmas staff party took place in the new year. We were spoilt rotten by our very generous MD and had a wonderful evening in Malmaison. Obviously we couldn’t have it here in our restaurant. With everyone invited to the party, who would have cooked?

New Year’s Eve in COCONUT

New Year’s Eve at Coconut. You dressed, you impressed and we were very happy to do the rest.

Oh what a night! The confetti from those party canons is still falling from places we didn’t know Coconut Bar and Kitchen had places. The food, wine, beer and cocktails were all flowing and at midnight we offered you all a glass of bubbly to welcome in the New Year. The party was a thank you to everyone who visited our cocktail bar and restaurant over the past year. We truly are grateful to you all.

A Crazy Christmas at Coconut.

It certainly was! You turned up in your droves with friends and family over the Christmas period. We loved seeing you having such a great time and proud that you chose Coconut as a place to celebrate. We love a party.

Paul, our fabulous Kitchen Manager came up with the special set menu. It was a big hit, and without a trace of turkey, sprouts or Christmas pud in sight, everyone enjoyed the delicious Pan-Asian Christmas alternative and the glass of bubbles that came with it.

It’s so lovely to receive reviews like this. ‘Excellent cocktails (best in Reading according to my wife). Excellent food and very friendly service. Will definitely visit again.’

Thank you Nicce we look forward to seeing you again soon, there are plenty more cocktails for your wife to try.

Employee of the month is Dinesh Thapa, King of Tempura. Well deserved too, both the King Prawn and Vegetable Tempura are sensational and never fail to please our guests. Also, in the kitchen, special congratulations to Hipolito who was promoted to Team Leader.
